Cherry Picking the Bits I Liked: Part 1 - Laying Down Markers

Caravan on Cumbrae- endless summers.

New high school friends with open minds & open reel tape recorders & copies of the first 2 Doors lps, Procul Harum’s 1st lp, MC5 – Kick Out the Jams (always played at top volume!) Progressive (i.e. Psychedelic Music on John Peel & Pete Drummond.

Friday/Saturday nights as part of the Maryland Ballroom/State Bar(unfit state) Glasgow Haight Ashbury scene.

Muswell Hill with open patio doors onto warm gardens blasting Joe Walsh’s ‘Smoker You Drink’ while we were on the ‘Rocky Mountain High’ & always Steely Dan.

Hitchhiking through Europe & then a month on the beach in Corfu still undiscovered by the lager louts.

Overland to Delhi:

  • Held up by soldiers & tanks in Athens during the Generals Coup

· seeing horse drawn carts in Kandahar & the bells, greatcoats & blunderbuses of the Afghanis.

· Colva Beach in Goa 73 & non-stop listening to ‘All Things Must Pass’ by George. Paradise on 5p per day. Helping the fishermen land their catch & being rewarded with fresh fish for dinner

· Benares/Varansi: pure centre of holy energy, where I first stood on the remains of burnt human limbs

· Khatmandu spoilt by sickness, but travelling through the Himalayas on the roof of a wooden bus, while riddled with hep was challenging
